While we hate to start a review on a negative tone, we do have some real concerns regarding this company (see what we didn't like, below). Careers Plus Resumes, or CPResumes.com, offers relatively affordable pricing and a decent guarantee -- a free resume revision if you don't land an interview within 90 days.

Sadly, it's hard for us to look past what we view as the negatives. More on that in a minute.

Here's How It Works

Complete their online questionnaire and upload/fax an existing resume, if available. You'll be assigned and contacted by a resume writer who will gather more information. We suspect that the default method of communication is via email, although we understand that a phone call from your writer is possible (and we would advise pushing for this). 

You'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. They say you can have your resume revised an "unlimited" number of times until you're satisfied. My advice: If revisions are needed, get it done within 90 days. That's what's spelled out in the fine print of their Terms of Service.  

The company will keep a backup of all your documents for any future updating.  

Here's What We Liked

• Multiple distribution formats.  
• Turnaround is relatively fast (24 to 48 hours).
• Pricing is comparatively reasonable and up front.  

Here's What We Didn't Like

As of January 11, 2015, the Better Business Bureau rates this company a B- on a scale of A+ to F. While that's an improvement over the score of D+ back in 2011, the BBB goes on to note a "pattern of complaints" ranging from the lack of consultation with a resume writer to resumes containing typos and grammatical errors, poor customer service, and difficulty dealing with company management. 

Indeed, customer complaints have spilled out onto the internet-at-large, with a number of 3rd party websites (e.g. complaintsboard.com, pissedconsumer.com) hosting negative customer comments. Finally, there's this altercation with a blogger who goes by the name imaNYgirl, which actually began in the comments section of this complaint: "Shoddy Customer Service, Average Product."

Careers Plus Resumes Review - The Wrap Up

From the company's website, this quote: "Careers Plus Resumes, LLC is a dynamic group of perfectionists who have been providing career-related document writing and employment services for nearly a decade with total client satisfaction." Total client satisfaction? Given the BBB report and posted complaints, we're not convinced.* We would advise caution to prospective customers.

As with all of our reviews, this is our opinion--we always advise readers to do their own due diligence.

* Update 02/02/2015 - After reading this review, contacting the reviewer and initially defending the claim, company management has now changed this quote on their "About" page to read: "...for over a decade with nearly 100% client satisfaction." We remain unconvinced.
